Parental Control

I would have to say the parents, I feel the government meddles too much with peoples everyday lives thinking "They know best". Even with censorship and all kids still do get away with it, much like smoking and drinking. R-rated movies kids still watch because their parents bring them in to it. I think if they pushed more for having parents strive to educate their children in right from wrong on this subject would be better for the children since most lookup to their parents for guidance and love.

V-chipping It!

I think that probably one of the best things they have done, by making a tool in which the parents can use to censor what they would not want their own children to watch. Most of the problems today is the parents not caring or taking some part in making sure their children arent exposed to things they shouldnt really see til they are older and can understand and reason with a mature and sound mind. In my honest opinion alot of problem children can be lead back to the home environment.

Living Vicarious

Levinson compares humans to ameboas in about the differences on how we live, ameboas live though directed contact(touch) where humans dont have to have direct contact(touch) to experience the moment or sensation.

The Internet has fast become a world in itself in our society today, where one can shop online and learn online and much more. My thought is, is the Internet a place for people to live vicariously untouched from the real world living and breathing and staying connected? You feel this is or might become a problem where society may become disconnected from each other because of the internet?

Parental Control to Total Government Control

Parental control has been a big push as of the past several years with the implementing of the V-chip and other newly regulated laws and all on censoring content to not be exposed to the younger generation. With that being said do you think that it might could get to the point where the government just steps in and makes the decisions for the parents, somewhat like the FCC has done in the past and continues to do. What do you think? You think that maybe something will happen much like the censoring program used by the nazi's?

Further Proof of Humans Devolving.

I can see your point and agree to some extent as that some people will fall prey to a thing such as that, as there as similar cases today though it not dealing with robots but other things that shackle them.

But... Looking at it from another point, I would have to disagree as that it is human nature and inside us all to do stuff to progress and become better, regardless of whether one is aware of it or not, we all strive to be better.

Also if we have the Robots "doing all of our critical thinking, theorizing, and creating for us", then one can look at it as we have evolved to a point where we can fill our time with other things instead of work or trivial things, we can enjoy life and not be shackled by the society we live in today where getting a 9 to 5 job come home tired and then having to take care of your family and all that stuff.

To many, that is a burden some and alot do not enjoy or look forward too. If I bought a couple of Robots to do my house work and gardening and stuff then I can fill my time with hobbies spending time with family and enjoy things I couldn't if I was having to get up at 7:30 am to be the work by 9 am and then getting off at 5 pm to get home around 6:30 pm, leaving me tired and restless and not having much time to do anything but only for a couple hours before I have to start another monotonous day over waking up at 7:30 am, etc.

"Protein" Chauvinism

There is a difference between thought and a soul, look at animals they can think but most of their thought processes are "Inbreed" in them which people call instinct. Intelligence is defined as:
"capacity for learning, reasoning, understanding, and similar forms of mental activity; aptitude in grasping truths, relationships, facts, meanings, etc."

Can one say that even though animals have DNA do they "ALL" have intelligence? Animals are flesh and blood but the biggest difference between Humans and most other creatures that walk to earth is we have the ability to chose and to reason where most all other creatures do not have that ability.

I would say that most humans shouldn't relate intelligence with DNA, that only naive people would say that in a sense to make them feel superior than others.

Digression of the Human Race?

Take Asimov's 3 Laws for Robotic's:

1. A robot may not injure a human being or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm.
2. A robot must obey orders given it by human beings except where such orders would conflict with the First Law.
3. A robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Law.

Levinson comments that Robot's could and can be enslaved by the Human race because of the Law's of Robotics

Now if we create an AI that can think freely as we do, that can walk, talk and move like us, making the only difference between the two is one is of flesh and blood were the other is made up of silicon plastics and metals. In a sense we are playing God by creating this AI would we be as bad as our ancestors that had enslaved other human societies? Or do you think that because Robot's do not have a soul making them inferior to us and thus jusitifying the means that they would be enslaved to us?

True AI?

Looking at Isaac Asimov's book with the 3 laws robots live by, which is encoded into the positronic brain of all AI, people feel safe and secure. Though some argue over whether to give them consciousness or not, in his book several Robots began to think and feel as human beings.

Take the movie I, Robot do you think that it could reach that kind of a point that Robots if given sentient consciousness with the engrained Laws that they would kill humans to save the human race as a whole. Much like the Zeroth Law that Asimov coined, saying that Robots could do harm to a few human beings, on the behalf of the many, or the good of humanity as a whole.

With the 3 laws engrained into them, could a Robot that gains sentient state override that engrained nature? Could they stretch out of the shackles that was put on them the day they were created?

The Authentic Image

I think it already has hit that point. Now in court they ask for the negatives of photographs to verify the authenticity of an image because of that. I dont think it will discredit the use of photographs, in fact even though you can modify an image with photoshop people still enjoy and approve of images taken with a camera. Though then you have to think how digital camera's will be taken serious or not, because you dont have hard evidence other than the hard drive it was recorded on by the camera which can be modified.

Overall I feel photography isnt discredited just questioned, which is justifiable when it comes to proving things or just wanting a great image to look at.

Where will TV go?

I think it has found it's niche, as you stated it will become something different, because of something new

I believe TV will survive, though it may adapt and evolve here and there as time continues. Taking a look at the TV when i was first around, it wasn't used then as it is used today. TV has evolved in a way that it can survive the era of the digital world aka the Internet.

There and Back Again:Photography Through the Ages

After the Medieval ages, up to the Age of Enlightenment paintings were the most popular form of medium, during which anyone and everyone that could afford portraits and paintings would display and/or show off to everyone. Though our mediums are digital than physical like a painting is, photography is huge where you have camera's on phone digital cameras are cheaper than ever and there are tons of photoshop-type programs to enhance your photographs. Taking note of that, is today's society any different then the time of Peter Paul Rubens, Michelangelo, Titian?

Information Evolution

I think there would be a difference but whether to say it is for good or bad i can not say. My thought would be that it would be good as open source on all thing one would think would lead to the top innovationg stuff for internet and software programs. But in another sense people could just make anything and everything and it be like myspace with most everyones site is pretty crappy.

I think he's just making a big publicity stunt to put himself by in the highlight for a bit, yes he probably is trying to make money but he doesnt really have the right to sue people for pictures of therir own taken of him or other free stock photos he should of said no icture taking in any of his shows unless they pay for a photo ticket before the event.

Free Rights

As everyone knows about the people that have copyrights on things, taking music for example, there are the ones that feel they should get every dime they think they deserve where there are artists that think hey i can get myself out there to the world and get discovered and become famous. Copyright protection?

In the past Sony has been ripped into hard about putting virus' in their programs and CDs etc. to prevent people from doing anything they deem illegal even to just make a backup copy of their own. Also there is iTunes with buying from them you can only play in itunes and with the password and username of who bought it. How do you feel about this and do you think it's continuing today and do they have a right to do that.

Well I'd like to answer that last question you stated, as is stated in the bible we are made in his image and to come back to him and be like him. Pual furthers that statement by expressing in Romans that we are Joint-Heirs with Christ and that Christ is a Joint-Heir with God and that What Christ hath we can become. The point for this life is to reach perfection which comes from years of experience. You can become perfect in this life but takes time =)

I would not doubt within a couple of years they will have something like Smell-A-Vision. But I think why it's the most over looked is cuz in most of society not having the ability to smell its gonna mean life or death honestly. Thats why I think it is over looked most of the time.

In one sense yes but in another sense no. Reason being is we do somewhat still live in a free country where we can speak freely most of the times and let people know our mind on stuff. Though anything can be considered as propaganda and heresy as people can be making things up or whatnot, sometimes it looks like the media choses what to put on and it pretty much it true.

Really you can look that any advertisement is propaganda since they are trying to push their product, People running to offices are definitely propaganda, they beat at one another without regard sometimes.

Most of the Human race do not like change whether people want to admit it or not. Most people enjoy the same routines and dislike it being changed. Though in today's society people are becoming more free to change but the majority are still do not like change. We have dealt with it before but comfort is a thing people find great and don't like to feel uncomfortable and embarassed. With that being said some people choose to be ignorant than to change or accept change saying they dont care they have better things or other things to do that are more important or whatnot.

I can definitely say that Technology does enhance knowledge, it has facilitated alot of growth in technology.

But in regards to the statement made about which came first the chicken or the egg?, I would have to disagree becuase without knowledge then the technology can not be made.

Take a look at alot of space, naval, and aero technology, they were talked by Sci-Fi books before being made take Gene Roddenberry in for example he took his ideas of space ships, teleporters and halo-decks, now were are trying to make these technologies.

Also look at the wheel the technology didnt come first the idea popped in said person's head what would be easier to cart things around? how about a round object under my barrel.

When looking at technology you have to understand how it works before it can be made. So in my opinion without Knowledge technology could not come to pass, but with ever increasing technology knowledge will increase as well. It's kind of like a slippery slope the more the learn the more we create and so on it just escalates.
